Valerian Root for sleep.
In this article we’re going to explore briefly the benefits of Valerian Root for sleep. It can be an inexpensive and effective sleep aid. As you can see from the link at the right, it’s only a little more than 8 bucks for a two to three month’s supply. Looking at the overall reviews on Amazon, we see an overall rating of four stars which is very good. I see comments such as this:
“I wish i tried this stuff so much earlier in life when i was first told to try it. I can actually SLEEP now!!!!!! I have struggled with insomnia forever! I have taken one unisom (i had to taper down from 3) for years. I struggle with dry eyes and sinuses so unisom was not making that situation better. It also didn’t help with my anxiety ridden vivid dream problem. Valeria root is strong enough to put me to sleep and KEEP me asleep! I have RLS and it calms it down too. The first night i took two and realized i only need one lol. So now i take one Valerian root and 1 magnesium l-threonate and I’m good for the night! I also got a day time version of this called “Be Calm” for my anxiety and i have felt 75% better! Anxiety is a beast and it’s hard to calm, but this has helped tremendously!!!! Thank u for saving me!”
But sadly it doesn’t help everyone in the same way.
Here’s another review for the same product:
“It had no noticeable effect after 1 week of usage.”
I might say that sometimes it can take more than a week for something like this to take effect.
We all know that Insomnia is a condition that causes us trouble either falling asleep or staying asleep. All too often it can wake us up too early. You wake up feeling feel tired and irritable for the rest of the day. For the lucky ones, insomnia only lasts a night or two. Sadly though for others, it can be a torture for them over many months or even years.
Brief cases of insomnia can happen because of temporary stress, excitement or other emotions, the fact still remains that over 20 million Americans already have a chronic form of insomnia. Severe insomnia is defined as difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep at least three times a week for 1 month or more.
While there are many prescription drugs available to help a person suffering from insomnia, they can be dangerous, expensive, and habit forming.
Before resorting to prescription drugs, it just makes sense to look at natural alternatives first. Natural sleep aides such as Chamomile, Melatonin, Tryptophan, and Kava are a few of the popular choices for those wanting to get relief from insomnia. However, there have been several studies in adults that suggest that another natural sleep aide is even more effective. It can improve the quality of sleep and reduce the time to fall asleep for up to four to six weeks.
As mentioned, this popular sleep aid is Valerian Root for sleep. Valerian is an herb native to Europe and Asia. This herb is now being grown in many parts of the world. The name is believed to come from the Latin word “valere” meaning to be healthy or strong. It is the root of the plant that contains it’s active ingredients.. Using Valerian as a sedative and anti-anxiety solution has been been going on for more than 2,000 years.
It was as early as the 2nd Century A.D., that an ancient Greek physician named Galen recommended Valerian as a natural sleep aid for insomnia. Besides helping with sleep disorders, It has also been used to treat sores and acne! It was also given for other conditions such as flatulence (gas), digestive problems, congestive heart failure, urinary tract disorders, and angina.
Valerian root for sleep extracts first became popular in the United States and Europe in the mid-1800s. It continued to be used by both physicians and the lay public until it the big money pharmaceutical companies widely replaced Valerianby prescription sedative drugs. But even so, Valerian remains popular in North America, Europe, and Japan. It is used widely as a natural sleep aid to treat insomnia.
In the United States, the natural sleep aide Valerian is sold as a dietary supplement, and dietary supplements are regulated as foods, not drugs. Because dietary supplements are not always tested for manufacturing consistency, the composition may vary considerably between manufacturing lots.
So again to summarize, Valerian Root might be just the solution for your Insomnia. I’d also suggest coupling it with the six step solution below, for maximum effect.
